The People of Community Health
Harbor Health and the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers recently celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the launch of the community health movement in the United States. In 1965, Drs. Jack Geiger and Count Gibson opened the Columbia Point Health Center, now Harbor Health’s Geiger Gibson Community Health Center, in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
It was the first community health center in the country, built on the belief that better healthcare access could help communities overcome poverty and gain greater voice in their own wellbeing.
