Dental Assistants Training Program

Harbor Health’s Dental Assistant Training (DAT) program is a critical healthcare workforce development initiative at our community health centers.

The DAT Program is based on our 20-year partnership with Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, teaching students enrolled in the school’s dental assisting program. Harbor Health’s dental care team developed the program to offer members of the community a 6-month, on-the-job chairside training opportunity that prepares participants for licensure from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry.

Dental assistant trainees are paid employees of Harbor Health and work in our dental practices as they receive on-the-job training. Licensed DAT “graduates” are offered full-time employment at Harbor Health, where they help provide routine and emergency dental care.

Dental assistants are essential to caring for our patients at all of Harbor Health’s dental practices. They help with a variety of health care tasks, from taking dental x-rays to recording treatment information to supporting dentists with managing dental emergencies.

Dental Assistant trainees continue to describe the program as offering a meaningful pathway into a healthcare career.
